I am an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics, Lazaridis School of Business & Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Director of the Health Economics at Laurier Research Group. I am also a Faculty Associate with the Canadian Centre for Health Economics (CCHE), Past-President of the Canadian Health Economics Association (CHEA), and a member of the editorial board of Applied Health Economics and Health Policy.
My primary research areas are applied microeconometrics and applied microeconomic theory in the field of Health Economics. Specifically I am interested in the economics of primary health care. My research on the economics of primary health care covers three specific areas: utilization of health care services, the determinants of healthy behaviours, and health care financing (i.e. financial barriers to access). More broadly, I am interested in how survey and administrative data, and the application of appropriate parametric and nonparametric estimation methods, can be used to further our understanding of the economics of primary health care.
